Swallowed Up

Gospel Template

Today's Verse

"I cried out to the Lord in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the land of the dead, and Lord, you heard me!" – Jonah 2:1b

When we call unto the Lord hears our prayers. Often, we have to look beyond what is right in front of us to see that He has heard our prayer, but when we seek Him in this way, He is there waiting for us to listen to what He has to offer. Jonah was in a tough spot, God had given him a specific task to complete; running away had gotten Jonah swallowed up by a giant fish. However, Jonah called out to God knowing that He would be there to listen to his prayer. Sometimes it can feel like we are inside a giant fish too, metaphorically speaking of course. As a metaphor, this fish can be many things. We all have something that can swallow us up, but when we call upon the Lord, He will hear our cry and answer it. – Commentary by Matthew J. Elliott

Today's Prayer

Father God, there are times in my life when I feel a giant fish has swallowed me. Help me to trust in You and call upon You in those moments of my life. Show me You're there. Amen.
