A New Day

Today's Verse

"In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider; God has made the one as well as the other, so that mortals may not find out anything that will come after them." - Ecclesiastes 7:14

Sometimes it can be difficult to overcome those days of adversity. They come like a thief in the night and drain everything they can from you. These kind of days are what I imagine many of the people in Florida affected by the recent hurricane are dealing with right now. Truthfully, I have always felt that these days are some of the more challenging to face. You work hard and do everything you can to be successful and then something happens and everything you are building just seems to fall apart. On the other hand, there are great days as well. Days in which the sun is shining in your life and everything just seems to be going right. Like the day you meet your wife, the day you moved into your new house, or perhaps the day your child was accepted into college. Those days are the ones you hold onto and help to define your life. Just remember, God creates both the good and the bad and we should honor and praise Him in all situation. Commentary by: Matthew J. Elliot.

Today's Prayer

Father, every day is a new day and we know they come and go. As we endeavor to work through both the good and bad days, give us the strength to honor you. Amen.

Our Provider

Today's Verse

"And he said, 'Bring them here to me.' Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds." - Matthew 14:18-19

In this passage, Jesus and the crowd of five thousand were in a remote and deserted place. It was already evening and the hour was getting late. The disciples were panicking, sending the crowds away, knowing there was no food except two loaves and two fish. Jesus calmly said, "Bring them here to me." Then an amazing miracle happened: "Taking the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves." After everyone ate and were filled, there were still twelve baskets of leftovers remained! In our Christian life, we will still experience trials and face tough times, but hold steadfast to God. He is waiting for us. Just as Jesus said more than 2,000 years ago, "Bring them here to me." Let us bring our petitions to Him without hesitation and fear. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is more than willing to provide and supply for our needs. - Commentary by Mark Natividad

Exposed In The Light

Today's Verse

"Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light." - Genesis 1:3

The previous verse tells us that the earth was formless and darkness was in the depth of it. In other words, the earth had no beauty, yet the Spirit of God hovered over it. And then God spoke the first statement, "Let there be light." So there was light and the earth was exposed to it. We all know the story of creation, how God transformed the planet from a lifeless void into a world full of beauty and wonder. We now behold its beauty, from the highest of heights down to the depths of the sea. Earth's story is like our stories. We were once useless and meaningless, until Christ appeared. He beautifies every area of our life as we are continually exposed in Him. Therefore if the light of God changed the ugly cosmos into a beautiful planet, then the person of light, our Lord Jesus Christ can definitely transform each of us as well. - Commentary by: Dionivie Tacder

Today's Prayer

Lord Jesus, I come to You as I am. I bring all my weaknesses and failures. I surrender myself into Your radiant light. Allow me to be exposed in it so my life will be changed for Your glory. Amen.

Authority over Everything

Today's Verse

"By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible." Hebrews 11:3

When God created the earth, He commanded everything to happen. Not only does this show us the supernatural power of God during creation, but it also shows us His great authority. If God created the world purely by His hands, crafting and forming every detail, then we can say that He used his ability and not His authority. But God commanded, and with His words, everything happened. Just like when He created light, He just simply says "Let there be light" and then light appears. It shows us that even from the beginning of time, God displayed His authority over everything in the world. When Jesus came and performed miracles, these miracles are also a display of authority not of ability. This reminds us that God is worthy of our worship and submission. Every knee should bow down to Him, praise His name and honor Him. That is why God demands worship and obedience, and He wants us to make Him the Lord of our lives. - Commentary by: Jeremy B. Trio

Today's Prayer

Lord, forgive me for my defiance and disobedience. Help me to submit to you always and to offer you the worship that you deserve. Amen.
