Today's Verse "Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into human hands." - Luke 9:44 | | | How often do we get distracted when we are trying to listen to someone, only to realize later we really didn't hear what they were saying? Being a good listener is so important in relationships and in sharing the love of God with others. It just takes a little extra effort to put down the cell phone, remote control, or iPad and engage in eye contact and focused listening. In this verse from Luke, Jesus is telling His disciples to listen carefully to what He is about to tell them. He often alerted them when He was about to say something important, or He would repeat phrases He really wanted them to pay attention to and grasp. When someone asks us to "pay attention to what I am about to say," we tend to open our ears and minds and focus more deliberately on what is coming. We need to listen carefully to what people are trying to tell us. Listen to God as He is talking to us in the words of scripture, our prayers, and with others.
