Today's Verse

"Let every person be subject to the governing authorities; for there is no authority except from God, and those authorities that exist have been instituted by God." - Romans 13:1

This verse seems pretty straightforward. It's not that hard to see why we need to obey the law for the most part. But what about when we really don't like our governing authority or they're just downright evil? Well, Paul didn't write this verse during a time of great leadership. The Romans were severely persecuting the Christians during this time and did many other evil things. The point remains, whether we like our rulers or not, God has allowed that person into power for a purpose, and as much as it doesn't require us to go against God's law, we need to obey them. Focus on the fact that God is on His throne, He is in charge, and trust that He has a plan in all of it. - Commentary by: Traci Elliott

Today's Prayer

Dear Lord, please give us peace no matter who is ruling over us. We pray that our governing leaders seek Your council daily. You are still the king over all! Amen.
