Gospel Template Today's Verse Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? - Isaiah 58:6-7 | | | In this season of Lent, many people are choosing to give certain things up. I have found that there are a few approaches to this. One is: "I do this because I have to" and the heart just isn't in it. Others just try to look good and hopefully gain some brownie points with God. Still others are truly sincere and want to please God with their fast. God goes straight to the heart of the matter in the above verses. What is the fast that God wants? It is to help the needy, the oppressed, the hungry, and to repent. While it can help us focus to give up creature comforts for a time, try to remember the heart of the matter first, and do a fast God's way. - Commentary by: Traci Elliott | | Today's Prayer Dear God, help us to focus on You and get our hearts right during this season of fasting.
