Today's Verse

"But the priests were too few and could not flay all the burnt offerings, so until other priests had consecrated themselves, their brothers the Levites helped them, until the work was finished—for the Levites were more upright in heart than the priests in consecrating themselves." – 2 Chronicles 29:34

Before Hezekiah began his reign, the priests and the people had forsaken the Lord to chase after idols. When Hezekiah, in his zeal, tried to bring the people back to the worship of our one true God, many of the priests were found to be unclean. When the people brought the sacrifices to the temple, the priests were unable to manage them until the Levites stepped in. According to the Law, only the direct descendants of Aaron were allowed to perform any of the priestly duties. However, the Word of God here praises the Levites for doing something they were technically prohibited from doing. It is only because of their diligence in their service of the Lord that they alone maintained an upright relationship with God. What have you been called to do for the Lord? Are you being diligent to keep yourself holy, as a workman approved by the Lord? Examine your heart today and re-dedicate yourself to God. – Commentary by Sarine Thomas

Today's Prayer

Father, I know that I have become caught up in serving myself more than You. Forgive me. Today, I submit myself to You once again.

Let's begin a fresh week filled with God's Word.

God Bless,
David
