The Reason for Christmas

Gospel Template

Today's Verse

"And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even death on the cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name." – Philippians 2:8-9

At first glance, this passage doesn't really strike you as a verse about Christmas does it? Well, it actually is. Jesus came in the form of a baby to sacrifice himself so that we could be saved. We often get so wrapped up in everything going on around us at this time of the year that we forget to remind ourselves, and others, what this season is really all about. As a family, we spent a good portion of our weekend decorating for Christmas. Truthfully, we really didn't focus much on the true reason for the Christmas season, but we are making the time to do so now. It's okay to have fun and get taken in by the joys of Christmas, but we also need to make time for the more important things as well. Don't forget Jesus came to die so we might live. - Commentary by Matthew J. Elliott

Today's Prayer

Father God, I know it can sometimes be hard to remember to celebrate the true reason we celebrate Christmas, along with everything else. This year I pray that we will embrace the opportunity to do so more often. Amen.
