Today's Verse

"Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like the watercourses in the Negeb. May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of Joy." – Psalm 126:4-5

Here is a portion of a psalm from the Ascents. According to history, the Psalms of the Ascents, were the Biblical version of worship songs. These were sung by those traveling to Jerusalem. Can you imagine watching a group of people singing something like this today? Psalm 126 is an offering of praise and a call to a hymn of sorrow. It seems impossible for it to be both, but there it is. We can learn from this. Did you know that we can offer praise even when we are sorrowful? It's true and when we give our sorrows to God in praise, we too can go home with shouts of joy. God has truly done great things and even in the midst of the sorrow around us we can be filled with joy. - Commentary by: Matthew J. Elliott

Today's Prayer

Father God, I am amazed at how You bring great joy out of the worst situations. Today I pray that I can do as You would have me do, embrace joy in the midst of hardship. Amen.
